An Introduction to Pastor Mike Noyes | Granite Creek Community Church

Hi There Granite Creek Family!

My name is Mike Noyes and on Sunday, November 1, I was ordained and installed here as the Executive Pastor of our church. Here is a little bit about me:

How long have you and your family been going to Granite Creek?

We have been attending Granite Creek for over 10 years.

Speaking of family, who does your family consist of?

My amazing wife Kimberly, and two terrific daughters: Lauren, 16 and Emily, 14. We also have four dogs (Sammy, Chip, Rosie, and Daisy), one cat (Chloe) and two chickens (Lucy and Ethel).

Do you have another job?

Yes, currently I am a District Manager for Party City and have 20 stores that I oversee in the San Gabriel Valley/Los Angeles/Inland Empire Area. Prior to that, I was a District Manager for Big Lots for three years and CVS/Pharmacy for two years. In total, I have over 25 years of management and leadership experience. My family and I love our church so much and I am excited to volunteer my services and experience to help serve and advance His kingdom.

What ministries have you served in at Granite Creek?

We have been involved in quite a few ministries, including Men’s and Women’s Ministries, Marriage Ministry, led several home groups and Alpha courses, Prayer Ministry, as well as currently leading the Healing Ministry at Granite Creek. My wife and I also serve on the Board of Directors, and our kids serve in the Hospitality and Worship Teams.

What exactly does an Executive Pastor do at the church?

That is a great question! As the Executive Pastor I will help support and execute the vision of Lead Pastor Josh, as well as manage, lead and play an integral role in all personnel decisions within the church staff. The Executive Pastor will lead the church budgeting and financial planning process. These are just two of the larger duties that I will have, but also there are quite a few more. If you ever want to ask me about them, feel free to find me and we can chat.

What does sanctuary mean to you?

I am really excited about this topic because sanctuary means different things to different people. Our foundation as a family, not to mention as a church, revolves around our relationship with the Holy Spirit (I always capitalize Holy Spirit, because to me the Holy Spirit should be capitalized just like God and Jesus are).

God spoke to Moses and said: “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.” – Exodus 25:8

I find it so interesting that some of the first people in the Bible who were filled with the Holy Spirit were Bezalel and the artisans that God placed in charge to build one of His first “sanctuaries” on Earth, a tabernacle.

God told Moses who should do the artistic handiwork of the temple: “See, I have chosen Bezalel, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab to help him.

Also I have given ability to all the skilled workers to make everything I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law with the atonement cover on it, and all the other furnishings of the tent, the table and its articles, the pure gold lampstand and all its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering, utensils …. and many other things that would fill the Holy Place. They are to make them just as I commanded you.” – Exodus 31:1-11

As you continue to read, the details that were downloaded into Bezalel and the artisans were so precise and detailed, it just shows that the details matter to God and how much He truly cares about His sanctuary.

In the New Testament, the dwelling place of God (in the form of the Holy Spirit) shifts into our hearts, which again shows how important we are to Him and the importance of sanctuary to our Father.

1 Corinthians 3:16 states: “Do you know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

There are so many other verses in both books of Corinthians about the Holy Spirit making His dwelling in us. It just makes me so excited to know how much God wants to dwell with His people and our ability to engage our heavenly Father in the sanctuaries that He sets up for us.
